Inside Dyad - What goes into a Dyad bag (Handcrafted. Local. Made to last)

Inside Dyad - What goes into a Dyad bag (Handcrafted. Local. Made to last)

Every Dyad piece starts in our studio in Woodstock, Cape Town,  and is made by hand, from start to finish No mass production. No shortcuts. Just quality materials, skilled hands, and a whole lot of intention.

Here’s what sets our bags apart:

Genuine Leather:

We use locally tanned, semi-aniline leather from the Western Cape. It’s soft, durable, and shows off the natural grain of the hide, ageing beautifully with time. Some finishes are waxier and firmer, designed to develop a rich patina. Our leather is a by-product of the meat industry.

Colour (with character):

Most of our leather colours come from trusted local suppliers, except Candy Pink, which was made especially for us.

Hardware that lasts:

Our hardware is sourced from Italy, gold-plated, high-quality, and made to hold up beautifully through years of wear.

Rope (yes, rope):

Made in Cape Town, originally for boating and climbing. Strong, textural, and perfectly suited to a coastal city.

Sustainability matters:

We use our offcuts to create smaller accessories like our bag charms and coasters, helping us work towards zero waste, because beautiful design shouldn't come at the planet’s expense.

Locally Made, Always:

Each Dyad piece is handcrafted in our Woodstock studio. We cut, paste, and sew everything ourselves,  ensuring quality while creating opportunities for local artisans.

Why shop local?

Because it supports people, not production lines.
Because it builds community and sustainable growth.
Because small-batch design means more care in every detail.

"For me, it’s never just about making a bag - it’s about making something well, with care, that lasts. That feels like the most honest kind of luxury."

– Jess, Founder of Dyad
